The Sac County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with all members present, Chairman Jim Wissler, presiding. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as submitted.
It was moved by Drake and seconded by Fischer to approve the agenda as posted. Ayes all, motion carried.
Molly Scott, representing the DECAT Board, appeared before the Board with members of the East Sac County third grade class and presented the Proclamation for Child Abuse Prevention. It was moved by Fischer and seconded by Drake to proclaim April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and urge all citizens to recognize this month by dedicating ourselves to the task of improving the quality of life for all children and families. Ayes all, motion carried.
The City of Lake View, represented by Scott Peterson and Dave Woltman, met with the Board and requested that they consider a resolution to limit the number of alcohol permits approved for RAGBRAI vendors, asking for no permits to be issued within 4 miles of the city limits of communities in the county. There was no action taken.
Lee Wuebker with Corn Belt Telephone updated the Board regarding broadband projects being completed this year within the county, namely installation of fiber towards Lytton and Early.
The County Engineer updated the Board on activities of the county road crews and the status of current maintenance and construction projects.
It was moved by Drake and seconded by Fischer to approve the Secondary Roads hiring of James Kunneke of Early for the maintenance position. Ayes all, motion carried.
It was moved by Fischer and seconded by Drake to approve the Civil Service Board reappointments of Kevin Litterer and Kevin Murray, both serving 6 year terms. Ayes all, motion carried.
After discussion regarding staffing issues, it was moved by Drake and seconded by Fischer to approve hiring an additional full time jailer for the Sheriff’s Department. Ayes all, motion carried.
Ken McClure, Sac County Sheriff, discussed the current state of the jail that was built in 1939, citing reports from the State Jail Inspector and from a Grand Jury report that the current facility “does not meet safety and security needs of prisoners, staff and the public” and presents a significant liability for staff and prisoners. After discussion, the Sheriff was asked to gather more information regarding construction of a new facility. No action was taken.
Supervisor Fischer updated the Board with information regarding two committees that he sits on, New Opportunities and Rolling Hills Community Services Region.
With there being no further business, on motion, the meeting was adjourned.
