The Sac County Conservation Board manages many different wildlife and recreational areas throughout Sac County. All of these areas are open to the general public for hunting, fishing and hiking and have a carry-in, carry-out trash policy. Parking is allowed in designated areas only. McDonald Greenbelt: 123 acres along the Raccoon River 2 miles north of Sac City. Mostly wooded uplands and grassy lowlands and an abandoned railroad property on northwest end. Hunting for whitetail deer, wild turkey and pheasant as well as fishing the river.
Vogel Access: 40 acres located 3 1/2 miles northeast of Nemaha along the Raccoon River. Mixture of floodplain forest and grassland. Hunting for whitetail deer and pheasant and fishing in the river.
Lubeck Woods: 45 acres just north of Sac City. Wooded. Hunting for whitetail deer and turkey.
North Raccoon River Heritage Wildlife Corridor: 80 acres directly north (attached) to Vogel Access. Mixture of floodplain forest and grassland. Hunting for whitetail deer and pheasant and fishing in the river.
Whitetail Woods Wildlife Area: 55 acres approximately 4 miles northwest of Sac City. Mostly wooded with a native grass plot. Hunting for whitetail deer, wild turkey, pheasant.
Eden Prairie Recreation Area: 39 acres along Boyer River, mostly wooded as well as 3 gravel pits. Located 4 miles northwest of Early. Limited hunting for small game and fishing in pits and river.
Almer Noyd Wildlife Area: 23 acres of wooded upland, gravel pit and river floodplain along the Raccoon River located 3 1/2 miles of Auburn. Hunting for whitetail deer, turkey and waterfowl as well as fishing the river.
The Maples: This 5 acre rest area is located along Hwy 39 about 2 miles south of Odebolt on county highway D-59. It is the perfect place for a family picnic or just to take a short walk to look at the trees and flowerbeds.
