Conservation Foundation
The Sac County Conservation Board (SCCB) was established in 1962 in order to acquire, develop, maintain and make available to the inhabitants of the county: parks, preserves, county forests, wildlife, and other conservation areas. Furthermore, the SCCB helps promote and preserve health and general welfare of the people, to encourage the orderly development and conservation of natural resources and cultivate good citizenship by providing adequate programs of public recreation. The SCCB manages nearly 900 acres of parks, wildlife areas, and recreational trails throughout Sac County. Many recreational opportunities await you in these areas, ranging from biking the scenic Sauk Rail Trail to walking the wooded trails of Hagge Park, to hunting deer or pheasants at Whitetail Woods or any of our other wildlife areas. There is also plenty of opportunity for camping, bird watching, canoeing, fishing, and more! In addition to managing these areas, the SCCB has a strong environmental education program designed to increase awareness and enjoyment of the county’s natural resources. The environmental education program is active throughout the county and makes presentations to schools, civic groups and clubs, Boy and Girl Scouts, and to the general public year-round. Summer camps, winter day camps, Knee High Naturalist, and Conservation Field days are just a few examples of the many opportunities for children and adults to learn about our natural resources.
Our History
The Sac County Conservation Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization that was formed to help support the conservation, recreation, and educational efforts for the Sac County Conservation Board (SCCB).
The preservation of Sac County’s few remaining natural areas is only possible with the generous support of people like yourself. Your contributions, in whatever amount, are appreciated and will be used to protect our natural resources for today and tomorrow.
The Foundation is supported primarily through gifts and receives no tax support or government assistance. You can help the organization grow to become an effective force in conservation. Your contribution will serve as an investment in Sac County and it’s future.
Our Mission
The goal of the Foundation is to support the functions and efforts of the Sac County Conservation Board.
Specifically, we help the SCCB in its efforts to conserve and protect natural areas, develop and maintain suitable programs of public recreation, and promote the conservation of natural resources through educational programming.
We accomplish these goals by helping to raise funds designated for various SCCB projects, serving as an organizational base for volunteers, and advising the SCCB concerning the needs of the community in regards to educational programming and recreational resources.
