Agenda for May 14, 2026

SPECIAL MEETING OF THE SAC COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

The Sac County Board of Supervisors will hold a special board meeting to conduct interviews of applicants for appointment to fill the vacancy in the office of Sac County Auditor, on Thursday, May 14, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m, in the Board of Supervisors' Board Room, Sac County Courthouse, Second Floor, 100 NW State Street, Sac City, Iowa, as contemplated by the Notice of Intent to Appoint to Fill the Vacancy in the Office of Sac County Auditor published in the official Sac County newspaper on May 5, 2026. The Board (individually, outside the presence of and without communicating with one another) advised the Sac County Attorney's Office that interviewing all applicants is necessary.

Prior to the commencement of the interviews, pursuant to Iowa Code § 331.211(2), the Board will discuss and vote to appoint a temporary clerk to serve as clerk of the Board for this special meeting, including for the purpose of recording the proceedings of any closed session conducted under Iowa Code § 21.5(1)(i).

During this meeting, the Board may go into closed session pursuant to Iowa Code § 21.5(1)(i) upon the request of an applicant whose professional competency is being evaluated. The Board will not select or appoint a person to fill the vacancy at this special meeting; the selection and appointment will be made at the Board's regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Following the conclusion of the interviews, and depending upon the respective elections of the applicants under Iowa Code § 21.5(1)(i), the Board may go into closed session to discuss and evaluate the professional competency of the applicants. Iowa Code § 21.5(1)(i) authorizes a governmental body to hold a closed session "to evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual's reputation and that individual requests a closed session." Any closed session held pursuant to Iowa Code § 21.5(1)(i) will be entered into only upon an affirmative public roll-call vote of at least two-thirds of the members of the Board present, as required by Iowa Code § 21.5(1), and minutes and an audio recording of the closed session will be kept as required by Iowa Code § 21.5(4) and (5).
