The Sac County Board of Supervisors met in special session with all members present, Jim Wissler, Chairman, presiding. The special meeting was held to conduct interviews of the applicants for appointment to fill the vacancy in the office of Sac County Auditor, as contemplated by the Notice of Intent to Appoint published in the official Sac County newspaper on May 5,2026.
It was moved by Drake and seconded by Fischer, pursuant to lowa Code § 331.211(2), to appoint Benjamin Smith, Sac County Attorney, as temporary clerk to serve as clerk of the Board for this special meeting, including for the purpose of recording the proceedings of any closed session conducted under lowa Code § 21.5(1)(i). Ayes all. Motion carried.
It was moved by Fischer and seconded by Drake to approve the agenda as presented. Ayes all. Motion carried.
The Board took up the interview of applicant Sarah Davey, scheduled for 1O:OO a.m. Prior to the commencement of the interview, the Board inquired of Ms. Davey whether she wished the Board to go into closed session pursuant to lowa code § 21.5(1)(i) to evaluate her professional competency, and Ms. Davey requested a closed session. lt was moved by Drake and seconded by Wissler to go into closed session pursuant to lowa code § 21.5(1)(i) to conduct the interview of Sarah Davey and to evaluate her professional competency. Roll call vote - Ayes: Drake, Fischer, Wissler. Nays: None. Motion carried. The Board entered closed session at 10:04AM. lt was moved by Fischer and seconded by Wissler to come out of closed session at 10:56AM Ayes all. Motion carried.
The Board took up the interview of applicant Taylor Mason, scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Prior to the commencement of the interview, the Board inquired of Mr. Mason whether he wished the Board to go into closed session pursuant to Iowa code § 21.5(1)(i) to evaluate his professional competency, and Mr. Mason requested a closed session. lt was moved by Wissler and seconded by Drake to go into closed session
pursuant to lowa code § 21.5(1)(i) to conduct the interview of Taylor Mason and to evaluate his professional competency. Roll call vote - Ayes: Drake, Fischer, Wissler. Nays: None. Motion carried. The Board entered closed session at 11:03AM. lt was moved by Wissler and seconded by Fischer to come out of closed session at 1.1:34AM. Ayes all. Motion carried.
The Board took up the interview of applicant Renee Roland, scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Prior to the commencement of the interview, the Board inquired of Ms. Roland whether she wished the Board to go into closed session pursuant to lowa Code § 21.5(1)(i) to evaluate her professional competency, and Ms. Roland requested a closed session. lt was moved by Wissler and seconded by Drake to go into closed session
pursuant to lowa Code § 21.5(1)(i) to conduct the interview of Renee Roland and to evaluate her professional competency. Roll Call Vote - Ayes: Drake, Fischer, Wissler. Nays: None. Motion carried. The Board entered closed session at 12:00PM. lt was moved by Fischer and seconded by Drake to come out of closed session at 12:57PM. Ayes all. Motion carried.
The Board took up the interview of applicant Dawn Mentzer, scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Prior to the commencement of the interview, the Board inquired of Ms. Mentzer whether she wished the Board to go into closed session pursuant to lowa Code § 21.5(1)(i) to evaluate her professional competency, and Ms. Mentzer requested a closed session. lt was moved by Wissler and seconded by Drake to go into closed session pursuant to lowa Code § 21.5(1)(i) to conduct the interview of Dawn Mentzer and to evaluate her professional competency. Roll Call Vote - Ayes: Drake, Fischer,
Wissler. Nays: None. Motion carried. The Board entered closed session at 1:04PM. lt was moved by Drake and seconded by Wissler to come out of closed session at 2:05PM. Ayes all. Motion carried.
Following the conclusion of the interviews, it was moved by Drake and seconded by Fischer to go into closed session pursuant to lowa Code § 21.5(1)(i) to discuss and evaluate the professional competency of the applicants. Roll Call Vote - Ayes: Drake, Fischer, Wissler. Nays: None. Motion carried. The Board entered closed session at 2:10PM. lt was moved by Fischer and seconded by Drake to come out of closed
session at 2:15PM. Ayes all. Motion carried.
The temporary clerk audio recorded by digital means all closed session portions of the meeting, as required by lowa Code § 21.5(4) and (5).
The Board did not select or appoint a person to fill the vacancy at this special meeting; the selection and appointment will be made at the Board's regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, May 19,2026.
There being no further business, on motion by Fischer and seconded by Drake, the meeting was adjourned. Ayes all. Motion carried.
